President
Camille Chamoun (Founder N.L.P.)
In the history of any country or a nation there are always few
men who play important roles in determining the destiny of their
country. Former President Camille Chamoun shaped the events of our
Lebanese history.
A fine combination of law, diplomacy and politics has kept
President Chamoun for many decades a prominent leader with
remarkable talents recognised not only by his countrymen but proved
on the arena of the middle east as a whole.
Having fought for the independence of Lebanon and for the liberty
of his nation, protected the unique image of the country for many
years, President Chamoun is still in the memories a leader of the
forefront of Lebanese politics.
President Chamoun was known to be a defender of democracy and
freedom, and an ally to the west. His well established relationship
with key figures in that part of the world has always provided help
and support for the Lebanese cause.
Followers admired his personality and his extraordinary will to
power while his enemies respected his ideology and high skills in
politics.
It was believed that the President had always several avenues of
thoughts, alternatives and solutions when considering problems, in
other words he was never trapped within a limited framework of
ideas. President Chamoun was the kind of man who could bring victory
out of defeat, carrying treasures away from the place his enemy
believed him to be burried.
One of the most important achievements of President Chamoun is
the founding of a political and ideological school of thoughts
represented by The National Liberal Party whose ideological
grounding was often expressed by the President:
" THE INDEPENDENCE OF LEBANON IS NOT LIMITED IN A SPECIFIC PERIOD
OF TIME. IT IS AN ETERNAL BELIEF AND A PURPOSE OF MIND. THE
INDEPENDENCE IS AS ETERNAL AS THE MOUNTAINS OF LEBANON. AS LONG AS
STRONG HEARTS OF THE LEBANESE PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO DEFEND IT,
INDEPENDENCE WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE."
The philosophy of The N.L.P. is to maintain Lebanon independent,
democratic and free from the alliance with any nation or the
interference from other countries.
Ever since the establishment of the party The National Liberals
have been comitted with many national duties to serve the Lebanon
and its people, following the steps of President Chamoun.
The N.L.P. has made itself available for serving the nation
politically as well as socially. The policy of defending the
lebanese citizens militarily against foreign aggressions was also
adopted.
On the other hand the party extended its networks overseas
building bridges of communications between the Lebanese communities
in all continents with their mother country helping to conserve our
national ideas and beliefs.
The party has always stressed on th high importance of the
lebanese immigrants and their role in determining the future of our
holly land, and in extending the lebanese culture and heritage
overseas.
The actual crisis and its repercussions on the Lebanese entity is
urging the Lebanese diaspora in unifying the efforts more than ever
before, in order to maintain this luminous center of civilisation in
the middle East.
